Fallin' in Love with Donuts

Last week, I got to turn off that 5 am workout alarm, take time off of work and enjoy the weather and time with my grandma in West Palm Beach, Florida. As I looked up places in West Palm Beach to get donuts, it was to my surprise that the nearest shop or bakery was 25 minutes away! While I was a tad bit disappointed in that information, I was glad to be spending time with my grandma and eating some amazing food.

If you ever have a chance to go to West Palm, do yourself a favor and go to these two palces:

1) Cool'A FishBar

2) BrickTop's

Cool'A FishBar is a seafood restaurant that has an old tropical vibe to it. This is probably in my top 3 restaurants in the U.S (that I have tried of course), and for good reasons! If we only go here once during our stay, I will ALWAYS get their coconut shrimp. Now, recently I had to go Gluten Free for health reasons, and I have realized that being Gluten Free there are certain items you will sacrifice your stomach for...... and this is one thing I will eat and be okay with the pain that may follow

Now their other food is fabulous as well! From their main courses of lobster, sweet potato crusted fish or their honey bbq mahi all the way to their sides of coconut rice, vegetables or their famous cool'a potato, you just can't go wrong!

BrickTop's is where the picture to the right was taken. It has an amazing patio where you can enjoy the spectacular food while overlooking the water. Once again, it is more of a seafood restaurant but they do have other options like steak and cheeseburgers.

This place has not been open that long, so it was our first and definitely not our last time eating there! Who can beat that view?!

While I did not get any donuts, the food I did eat made it all okay :) But with that said, when I landed back in freezing Chicago, I thought of a nice cup of coffee, my couch and donuts from my favorite place in town; Stan's Donuts.

I have never gotten a gluten free donut before, so I thought I should start with my favorite place.... They had a couple of options, but I wanted to start off with the typical Chocolate Cake Donut. As I got back home with my donut in hand, I did not know what to expect, but as I bit into it, I was thoroughly surprised! The cake was moist and extremely dense, the chocolate was rich and creamy and if I didn't know any better, this donut had gluten!

I even had my dad and brother try the donut without telling them it was gluten free...because if they knew, they would never have tried it, or they would have said it was gross solely because they knew it had no gluten in it.

Well the final result?

Even Eric was surprised at how good it was!!
